Summary:
The authors experimented with a small telescope aboard a small jet aircraft to make infrared observations. At 45,000-50,000 feet above sea level, the airplane is above most of the water vapor which would block wavelengths from 25-1000 microns from reaching a ground based telescope. Significant results have demonstrated the ability of the airborne telescope. Bigger and more powerful airborne telescopes are needed for future infrared observations.
