About 250 people at the base facility and 150 at the summit attended Gemini Observatory's dedication ceremony. With a photo of luminaries attending the ceremony including Mayor Yamashiro, Prince Andrew, and Luis Kreckler, consul general of Argentina. Prince Andrew also attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the University of Hawaii and the Faulkes Foundation at the Maui Research and Technology Center in Kihei, Maui. Faulkes Telescope will be built on Haleakala as the biggest educational observatory for high school and undergraduate students.
