An account (p. 366-379) of Liholiho's journey to the summit of Mauna Kea that started in Waimea, through Hanipoi, on the northeast slope of the mountain at a height of two thousand seven hundred feet above sea level. Here Liholiho gives a description of dense forests that is filled with a variety of trees, ferns and mosses as well as a description of the mountain's volcanic nature at the higher elevations and the view of the island of Maui, Mauna Hualalai, and Mauna Loa as seen from the summit of Mauna Kea.
