- Summary:
- This geologic guidebook for the 83rd Annual Cordilleran Section Meeting, Geological Society of America, May 20-22, 1987 at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, is for a one-day trip on the summit and south flank of Mauna Kea to examine glacial deposits and volcanic rocks with which they are interleaved. The geology is seen in driving along the road from Humuula Saddle to near the summit of Mauna Kea and on a 1200 m descent by foot from Lake Waiau to Puu Haiwahine. Much of the descent follows Waikahalulu Gulch, where numerous critical exposures occur.
