Summary:
The University of California plans to build the world's largest optical telescope on Mauna Kea. The telescope would have a diameter of 400 inches, made up of 36 hexagonal segments. To make it a reality, UC needs to work out a sublease agreement with University of Hawaiʻi; get approval from the state Board of Land and Natural Resources; prepare an environmental impact statement; and obtain the blessing of Hawaiʻi County.
