Summary:
Erosion and uncontrolled water runoff can become serious problems threatening the health and economic well-being of our communities. Planning ahead for erosion and sediment control during land use activities will minimize these problems, and help conserve our invaluable natural resource, the soil. This guide contains conservation measures for agricultural and urban lands. The intent of this guide is to help farmers, ranchers, landuse planners, urban developers and others effectively reduce erosion and sedimentation. The guidelines presented pertain to soil, water, and plant resources and their relationship in protecting the environment. This guide was prepared by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, with the cooperation of the Soil Conservation Society of America, Hawaii Chapter and the Hawaii Association of Conservation Districts, as part of the technical assistance provided to Hawaii's Soil and Water Conservation Districts. It replaces the "Erosion and Sediment Control Guide for Urbanizing Areas in Hawaii" (1976).
