This document describes a study that included 23 analyses that were done on the chemical and mineralogical diversity among the lavas that are found in Hawaii. These included analyses that was on olivine basalts, labradorite basalts, and aphyric basalts. Here, an effort to explain the variety of accessible lavas, by processes that have been operating since the height of the Hawaiian volcanoes extended above the sea, is described.
