Hawaiian mints Lamiaceae Stenogyne rugosa
Summary:
The Hawaiian endemic mints display a considerable diversity in floral, fruit, and habit features. This study evaluated the origins of the Hawaiian mints using phylogenetic analyses of DNA sequence data. The mints were found to be closely related to North American Stachys from the Pacific coast. Because Stachys is polyphyletic, the authors speculated that the Hawaiian mints may be polyploid hybrids.
