Summary:
Water and mud interface samples were collected from Lake Waiau, Hawaii at two periods during the summer of 1970. Samplings were made to study structural changes of micro organism populations from June to August. In addition, chemical and physical characteristics were recorded accompanying each sample (taken at time and position of water sample). Population counts showed numbers of algae nearly doubled from June to August. Zonal preferences were apparent for some algae genera. Phytoplankton community showed an overall decrease in diversity from early to late summer.
