Summary:
A study of basalts from many localities, including several specimens from the island of Hawaii, leads to the conclusion that pigeonite is the most abundant pyroxene in such rocks. Pyroxenes crystallized from basaltic magma show a regular sequence from diopsidic to hypersthenic (pigeonitic).
