Summary:
Important pollinators in native ecosystems, are the native Hawaiian Hylaeus bees. As a first step toward the assessment of this bee population in the State of Hawaii, a summary of the distribution and abundance of these bees that were based on recent and historic collections, are presented in this paper. However, since several large areas of the Hawaiian Islands remain unsurveyed, this report cannot be regarded as comprehensive. Nevertheless, this is the first report of threats to Hylaeus species that is based on field data that was obtained from 1999 to 2002.
