- Metrosideros polymorpha
- Summary:
- This document describes how the native ohia (Metrosideros collina subsp. polymorpha) forests on the island of Hawaii were declining at a serious rate and how many trees died as a result of root rot that was caused by a fungus known as the Phytophthora cinnamomi. However, how this fungus was involved in the decline of the ohia forest was unknown. This paper reports on the relationship between nutrient deficiency and ohia decline and how the results of this study have indicated that the ohia trees were declining due nutrient deficiency.
