Summary:
The study of nest-site variability (open nests versus cavities) of the Hawaii Akepa was conducted near the Kahuku Ranch cabin above the upper edge of the Kau Forest Reserve on Mauna Loa. The Hawaii Akepa is the only subspecies of the Akepa known to breed in cavities.
