Passerine birds Breeding biology
Summary:
Partially due to the relatively few field investigators, small populations, dense vegetation, rugged terrain, and adverse weather conditions, the breeding biology of the most endemic passerine birds in Hawaii was poorly known. However, since more taxa were listed as endangered in Hawaii than in any other comparable area in the world, (as was reported by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1976), this information was of particular importance. As a result, based on information that was available in 1980, this document provides information regarding the status and distribution of passerine birds that are endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. This table includes the records of their nests, eggs, and nestlings. Also included in this document are tables that provide a summary of the knowledge of the reproductive data of endemic Hawaiian passerine birds that was based on the status that was present of the various taxa (both species and subspecies), and a summary, by island, of the undiscovered reproductive data of endemic Hawaiian passerine birds by taxa.
