Mauna Kea Comprehensive Management Plan
Summary:
This document describes a comprehensive management plan for the volcanic peak of Mauna Kea, wherein telescopes that will be constructed at the summit have been conditionally approved by the Hawaiian government. The University of Hawaii holds a long-term lease on a preserve that houses 13 observatories. While some of the proposed telescopes have been canceled, two major projects are still moving ahead. These are the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) and the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS).
