- Summary:
- This study was done to determine the evolutionary and conservational status of Hawaiian ferns and fern allies through which it was found that habitat destruction by humans and feral mammals is the major conservation problem. However, it was also felt that artificial spore banks and whole-plant culture may help save some rare pteridophytes, with the most promising procedure being the establishment of natural preserves.
