Summary:
The small Indian mongoose that rapidly adapted to conditions in Hawaii after it was introduced to the island in 1883, is of significant importance with regard to public health problems, agriculture, and game management. As a result, the objective of this study was to define several aspects of its movement patterns in an effort to better understand the relationship of the mongoose to the problem, of plague in fleas, rodents, and man. The study was done in the northeastern sector of the Hamakua District on the island of Hawaii where the mongoose is locally abundant.
