- Summary:
- Arising from a few initial immigrant species, the isolated Hawaiian avifauna has developed in evolutionary time through spectacular adaptive radiation and intra-archipelagic speciation. Therefore, in relation to basic geographic and environmental characteristics of the islands, the purpose of this paper is to analyse the distribution of native land bird species in the Hawaiian archipelago and to compare the results with general postulates of the equilibrium theory of insular biogeopraphy.
