- Summary:
- The list in this document contains the results of measurements that were made in 1965 and 1966 where the samples were counted in the form of acetylene gas and the ages were computed on the basis of the Libby half-life of 5568 (plus or minus) 30 years. The commonly-used error listed is larger than the one-sigma statistical counting error. While the list takes into account the known uncertainty of laboratory factors, it does not include external field or atmospheric variations. Samples were taken from various areas in North America such as Delaware, Washington D. C., Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, South Carolina, Alabama, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington State, Wyoming, Alaska, the Atlantic Ocean, and Hawaii, as well as from areas such as Chile, Costa Rica, Israel, and Malaysia. Unless otherwise stated, the collectors of this survey were members of the U.S. Geological Survey.
