Hawaii Scientific Drilling Project Lava analysis Olivine Isotope ratios
Summary:
Oxygen isotope ratios provide important constraints on the sources and processes of oceanic volcanism and, relative to other oceanic basalts, Hawaiian lavas are unusual. This paper reports on results of a study that was done with regard to the values of olivines from the Hawaii Scientific Drilling Project (HSDP) that was taken during a 1 kilometer-deep drill core that was done near Hilo Bay and from a small number of outcropping subaerial and dredged submarine samples that were analyzed for comparison.
