- The authors use the high-resolution bathymetric data, the plate subsidence model, and the information of the geology of Hawaiian seafloor to calculate more accurately the shield volcano volumes. The calculated volume for the Island of Hawaii and its submarine extent is nearly twice the previous estimate which indicates that magma supply rates are greater than previously estimated.
