Summary:
In this document the author states that while it is the general consensus that the water-sheds of Hawaii should be covered with heavy forests and carefully protected, he lists reasons why he believes that our native forests are doomed and that within a few years, the forests of Hawaii will have no value in serving as protective coverings for our water-sheds. He believes that this is due to the fact that our present forests are now narrow strips of interior forests that have been deprived of their natural protective frontiers due to the destruction that has been caused by beasts and man. As a result, his prediction is that the death warrant of the forests in Hawaii has already been "signed and sealed" and that the only way of rebuilding proper forests on our water-sheds is through the introduction of new plants.
