Summary:
This article describes the adze quarry that exists near the summit of Mauna Kea where, in front of a cave, exists a 25-foot high pile of stone chips that likely accumulated from the manufacture of stone adzes, maika balls, and other artifacts. It is believed that this was likely an important site of industry in the Hawaiian islands where adzes or "koi" were once manufactured out of the dense, fine-grained stone.
