Summary:
This document describes a summer solstice ceremony that began at the ancient Heiau O Mamalahoa Helu Elua in Keaukaha on the island of Hawaii that was followed by the greeting of the sun on Mauna Kea, healing chants, the blessing of the hookupu or offerings that were brought to Kuhauula -- the highest point of the summit where an ahu or altar stands. This ceremony is done on an annual basis in an effort to heal traditional sites that have been disturbed through the development and infrastructure that accompanied construction of the observatories atop a land this is sacred to the native Hawaiian people.
