Drepanidinae Hawaiian honeycreepers
Summary:
Even though other members of the Hawaiian Avifauna are remarkable, the Drepanine birds will always be the focus of the ornithologist. In this document, the Drepanididae includes thirty-six species belonging to eighteen genera. One genus with one species is restricted to the outlying island of Laysan, as is also a second species not collectively endemic, both being included in these remarks in the family. However, with the rest of the Laysan Avifauna they may be excluded from the list of Hawaiian forms. The total number of species named in this document is somewhat less than those who most recently wrote about the Archipelago, due to the fact that several forms of this species have been described as distinct but appear to be unworthy of this rank.
