Kohala
Mauna Kea volcano
- Summary:
- The authors used the research vessel Thomas G. Thompson to search for remnants of an older Kahala edifice and concluded that Hilo Ridge is a product of Kohala instead of Mauna Kea. This conclusion is consistent with triple-spike Pb isotope analyses of the Hilo Ridge samples. They also predict that the Mauna Kea section penetrated by the Hawaii Scientific Drilling Project will be found thinner than expected due to the overlap.
