Summary:
This document describes the serious effect that Hawaii's domestic and feral cat population has had on Hawaii's endemic birds such as the endangered Hawaiian Honeycreeper (Palila), the Hawaiian Crow (Alala), the Hawaiian Goose (Nene), as well as the Hawaiian Coot, Hawaiian Duck, Hawaiian Moorhen, Newell's Shearwater, and the Hawaiian Silt. It also describes the diseases by which free-roaming cats are afflicted, and how effective a Trap, Neuter, and Release (TNR) program, a Stray Cat Sanctuary program, and a "Cats Indoors!" campaign has been with regard to managing cat colonies and reducing the number of free-roaming cats that threatened Hawaii's birds.
