- Summary:
- The Amakihi, (Loxops v. virens), is considered the most adaptable of the endemic Hawaiian honeycreepers due to the fact that they are often able to successfully nest under surprisingly cold conditions of tropical islands. The construction of a well-insulated nest is one of the factors that might enable these birds to accomplish successful nesting under these conditions. As a result, the purpose of this study was to measure the heat loss from the nest of the Amakihi under carefully controlled conditions.
