Summary:
This document describes the rare view of suncups and sunpeaks that form on the summit of Mauna Kea. This formation occurs through the evaporation of the snow in the dry air of the polar desert and exists at the high elevations where solar heating is strong, the air is dry, and where the temperature rises little, if any, above freezing at the time of the formation.
