Summary:
This document described various ascents that were made to Mauna Kea with the coming of the white men to Hawaii. Ascents are described that were made by bontanists and other scientists who had a desire to see what existed above the forest lines. These journeys were attempted by those who were not hampered by the superstitions of the native Hawaiian people and by those whose clothes and footwear allowed such journeys.
