This document describes how snow was brought to Mauna Kea via a feud that occurred between Pele, the goddess of fire, and Poliahu, the goddess of snow. Also described are the ski clubs that formed throughout the years, a ski meet that was held in 1967, the various health effects that one might experience when skiing at the high altitude of Mauna Kea, as well as the unpredictable weather and ski conditions that occur on the summit from year-to-year that may leave one to decide on whether or not to plan a ski trip in Hawaii.
