Summary:
In this document, the author studied the mountain flora in Hawaii that corresponded to the upper forest regions on various islands and to different climatic belts that would have each had special vegetation and possibly its own history. Alpine and subalpine species were studied in various regions such as at the summit plateaus on the island of Kauai, at the highest ridges on Oahu, on Haleakala on the island of Maui, and on Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea, and Hualalai, on the island of Hawaii. In this study, the author also attempted to determine if the flora from these areas were endemic to the islands or if it was possible for the seeds to have been carried across the Pacific and other oceans and to determine if new plants arrived on the islands from time to time.
