- Summary:
- Description of the trip on horseback between Humuʻula and Kona. The track consists a dusty plain and a plain strewn with lava boulders and black aʻa. The humuʻula ranch people have planted the mesquite and alfileria grasses of California, and have found that these surpass the native grasses. Māmane tree is spreading on the mountain and there are wild cattle, sheep, hogs, and horses; as well as millions of California quail.
