Summary:
This paper focuses on the characteristics of the former glaciers on Mauna Kea and the implication for reconstructing the history of climatic fluctuations in the tropical mid-Pacific for the last quarter million years. Growth of former ice caps on Mauna Kea most likely was caused by enhanced winter snowfall and reduced ablation rates due to lower air temperature and increased cloudiness.
