Geomagnetism secular variations
- Summary:
- The secular variation (SV) of the geomagnetic field was studied using spectral analysis and precession analysis of the magnetic vector from the sediments of Lake Waiau. The angular dispersion calculated using the continuous paleomagnetic data from Hawaii is in agreement with the hypothesis that unusually low SV has occurred beneath the central Pacific region on time scales of 10000 years. There is no apparent drift of the geomagnetic field for the last 700 years.
