Summary:
A meteorological station was established at 3018 meter elevation on a slightly sloped saddle portion between Magnetic Peak and Red Hill on Haleakala, Maui. The purpose was to record radiation and soil heat flux, as well as air, soil, and temperatures. These climatological factors, together with the distribution of stone stripes, indicate that the ground features on Haleakala are of periglacial origin and have been produced under the mixture of critical environmental conditions.
