- An astronishing short-time record in climbing to the summit of Mauna Loa from Kapapala Ranch was established on Saturday, July 24 by J. W. Waldron, A. L. Castle, and Lieutenant Sadler and Lieutenant W. H. Robertson of the Fourth Calvary. The quartet left the ranch dairy at 4:30 a.m., and after making the ascent, were back at the ranch before bedtime.
