Palila Hunting Saddle Road Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources Roads environmental aspects
Summary:
This document describes how hunters filed papers against the state Board of Land and Natural Resources stating their concerns that the planners did not pick the most environmentally sensitive option for the construction of a key part of the Saddle Road that is located on the island of Hawaii and how the plan could interfere with the contemplation of the beauty of the area while arguing for an increase of introduced game animals that helped to propel species such as the critically endangered Palila bird to the brink of extinction. Also described are the ways in which the Federal Highway Administration approached this project with environmental consciousness.
