Summary:
A detailed study that was done by the University of Hawaii Archaeological Field School is described in this document regarding adze production sites that are located at a 190,000 acre military preserve that is known as the Pohakuloa Training Area, on the island of Hawaii. While the main focus of research on adze production in the Hawaiian Islands has been on the Mauna Kea quarry complex, this article reports on adze production locales that are approximately 4.5 kilometers down-slope from the main quarry on Mauna Kea and provides new insights on traditional Hawaiian economic organization.
