In a letter dated April 20, 1825 to Professor Benjamin Stillman, Professor of Chemistry, Mineralogy at Yale College, New Haven, Connecticut, Mr. Joseph Goodrich, an American missionary to the Sandwich Islands, describes the volcanic character of the Island of Hawaii. Included in the letter is a description of Goodrich's expeditions to the summit of Mauna Kea. The article also includes "various facts connected with late observations of the Christian Missionaries in that country, abstracted from a Journal of a Tour around Hawaii, the largest of the Sandwich Islands" by William Ellis.
