Summary:
The Kohala Terrace is located off the northwest coast of the island of Hawaii and is composed of lava flows from Kohala, Mauna Kea, Hualalai and probably Mauna Loa volcanoes. An analysis that was done of the geological and geophysical data that was collected on the Terrace revealed a complicated geological history for this section of the submarine terraces that are common along the Hawaiian Ridge. Through investigations, evidence was found for extensive subsidence that was on the order of 1250 meters. This was due to the normal faulting of the western flank of the island of Hawaii, as well as in situ submarine volcanism.
