Summary:
The Hawaii Scientific Drilling Project, (HSDP), provided an excellent opportunity to investigate the thermal-hydraulic field at different depth intervals at the flank of Mauna Kea. With three main issues described in the literature to investigate different dynamic processes that may influence the thermal and hydraulic field in Hawaii, the objectives of this paper are an understanding of the thermal and hydraulic field. This is due to a negative temperature gradient and cold temperatures in the 1-km-deep borehole of the HSDP that is located near the coast line.
