Summary:
This document describes insects that occur at the high elevations of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. Several species of flies such as the most-abundant Limnophora arcuata, a specimen of Agromyza pusilla were found in addition to gnats, butterflies, such as Vanessa cardui, Lycaena boetica, a specimen of the common pentatomid, Oechalia griseus, the Amblyteles koebelei, Chaetogaedia monticola, Simosyrphus grandicornis, Sarcophaga pallinervis, Euxoa austalea, Scotorythra rara, and Scotorythra arurea. Specimens of moths were also found such as Plagithmysus blackburni and Agrotiphila microreas. Also listed are other positively recorded species that were found in the higher elevations of these summits such as members of the Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera, and Odonata family of insects.
