Summary:
This document describes adze quarries that were established among the islands of Hawaii and the economic impact that adze production had throughout the islands with particular emphasis on the quarry that was established on Mauna Kea, on the island of Hawaii. This quarry was the largest known quarry in the Pacific region that involved large-scale production of basalt adzes. Also described was the discovery of a small-scale, non-specialized production of adzes that was found at Pohakuloa -- outside the main quarry of Mauna Kea.
