Database Troubleshooting
The most common difficulties when trying to access databases (Academic Search Complete, JSTOR, ScienceDirect, etc.) and online journals are:
- You must have registered your ID with the Circulation Desk this semester.
- Your internet browser must accept cookies.
- You must temporarily disable pop-up blockers.
- Your browser (try Firefox instead of Internet Explorer).
- Clear your browser's cache (if you don't know how to do this, type "clear cache" and your browser name into Google).
If you are still having difficulties accessing resources, please fill out this form. A librarian will contact you within two (2) working days (excluding weekends and holidays). You can also call (808) 932-7296 to talk to a librarian.
Ask-a-Librarian
Faculty, staff, and students of UH Hilo and Hawaiʻi CC are welcome to submit questions to Reference staff. Others will be assisted if requests concern UH Hilo, Hawaiʻi CC, unique resources, or government documents held by the Mookini Library.
We will answer short questions like those you might ask at a reference desk. Get individualized help for more in-depth research with our Book-a-Librarian service. If your question is not related to library research, we will put you in touch with the appropriate UH service department.
You will receive an answer within two (2) working days (excluding weekends, holidays, and campus closures).
If you are unable to use this form, address your question to mookini@hawaii.edu
If you prefer to speak to a reference librarian or if you need further assistance, please call (808) 932-7296.
Book-a-Librarian
Librarians are available for individual appointments for UH system students, faculty, and staff.
Keep in mind that librarians are sometimes available in the evenings and on Sundays, too!
You will receive an answer within two (2) working days (excluding weekends, holidays, and campus closures).
Your requested days/times should be at least three (3) working days after you submit the form. (We cannot schedule appointments for the same day or the next day.)
Book-a-Librarian Feedback
Please help us by honestly providing feedback about your Book-a-Librarian experience. We have dozens of these appointments every semester, so unless you choose to provide identifying information, this feedback will be anonymous.
