August 2022 Stall Talk
Welina mai kākou
Welcome back Vulcans! Your Journey is Our Focus.
'Ōlelo No'eau:
_'A'a i ka hula, waiho i ka hilahila i ka hale.
When one wants to dance the hula, bashfulness should be left at home. ('Ō.N. #2) _
Don’t be shy. Participate! This does not just pertain to hula. This can be used in all situations when one is apprehensive in participating in an activity.
Set-up Your Semester For Success.
Get to know your campus services. Whether you are a new or returning student, it is good for you to be aware of what UH Hilo services are available to support you through your academic journey.
Mark your calendar with important due dates and events. Organizing your tasks in the beginning of the semester can help you maintain your well-being all semester long. Don't forget to schedule time for self-care, rest, eating healthy meals, studying and socializing.
Practice self-care daily. Taking time out of each day to care for yourself is essential to your overall well-being. Learning stress-management strategies and activities that help you to maintain stress levels will support you in building and maintaining resiliency.
Get involved. Community participation in college can have many positive outcomes. Being active in campus life can give you a chance to build your skill set, improve your collaboration abilities, and even grow your self confidence. Look into student volunteer opportunities, RISO's or student employment.
Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
988 has been designated the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to a trained counselor at the the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). This new, shorter phone number will make it easier for people to remember and access mental health crisis services. Please note, that the previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) continues to remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
