welcome
Heahea. There is no equivalent to the English; one may say hale: he hale kou, you have a house (you are always welcome there).
- Examples:
- To welcome guests, hoʻokipa i ka malihini.
- You are welcome, he mea iki, he mea ʻole (lit. a little thing, nothing; modern).
- Expression of welcome: should [you wish to] come to the land, there is a house, poi, fish for you, and land is for you, i kū ā hele mai i ka ʻāina, he hale, he ʻai, he iʻa nou, nou ka ʻāina.
- To wear out a welcome, uluhua i ka pīnaʻi.
- Welcome! E komo mai! Mai! He mai!
