/ kū.pono /nvs., Upright, perpendicular, honest, decent, proper, appropriate, satisfactory, rightful, reliable, right, just, fair, qualified, suitable, advisable, advantageous, convenient, seemly, fit, natural, applicable, nearby; worth, merit, excellence.
- Examples:
- Mahope iho o ke kahuna imu e kūpono ana i ka loʻi, behind the cook house next to the taro patch.
- Ka mea i ʻike ʻia he kūpono, as is seen fit; as is deemed proper.
- Ka hope kūpono i kāna hana ʻana, the natural consequences of his acts.
- Nā mea e kūpono ai nā lunamakaʻāinana, qualifications of representatives.
- Nā hua ʻō-lelo kūpono i ka mea i oʻo, kūpono nohoʻi i nā keiki, words referring to the middle-aged, also applicable to children.
- Ua hoʻomāhuahua aku naʻe ka uku o nā kumu kula e like me kō lākou kūpono, the pay of the teachers was increased according to their merit.
- Kūpono lākou i waho o Hanamāʻulu (FS 67), they were just outside Hanamāʻulu.
