USS Arizona
Memorial, Pearl Harbor, Oʻahu. Park and memorial dedicated in 1962 and operated by the National Park Service that commemorates the battleship USS Arizona. The memorial straddles the Arizona, where she was bombed and sunk in a surprise attack by aircraft from the Imperial Japanese Navy on Sunday, December 7, 1941, killing 1,177 sailors. The attack engaged the United States in World War II. The Arizona Memorial Vistors Center was completed in 1980 at a cost of $4.9 million.
