2. Cape, headland, point, promontory. (PEP laʻe.)

3. Wisdom; mental or emotional qualities. Cf. lae oʻo, lae paʻa, lae ʻula, and idioms pohā 1; poʻohū 1. hoʻo.lae To pretend to be wise; to act smart; pretentious.

4. An insulting term, followed by qualifiers, referring to kauā, outcasts, who had dots tattooed on their foreheads (Malo 70–2). Cf. lae kiko, lae mamo, lae puni.

v. To be light; to be clear, as day; to be shining, as a light. See LAELAE and kindred with lai.

s. Any projecting substance, as a prominent forehead. 1 Sam. 17:49. A brow of a hill; a cape or headland. In geography, a cape or promontory.

2. A calm; a calm place in the sea, as under a bluff, cape or headland.
